ABOUT THE MONSTER TEE
It was a quiet summer night on the Lake Erie Islands.

The sun began its nightly descent behind the horizon, causing reds & oranges to dance on the water's surface as the waves rolled in a dreamy slow-motion. Kayaking from Middle Bass Island & circling around Sugar Island, I began imagining what was making its way through the shallow waters of the lake below me. Sure, the Lake Erie Water Snake calls the islands home, but this was larger. Was that an enormous gilled body slithering beneath the surface? Was that the floor of the lake I just saw, or a creature? The waves, the light glare, & my kayak's motion made it hard to decipher what I was looking at. Could it be? Was I out there with the elusive Lake Erie Monster?

The Great Lakes hold more than 6 billion gallons of water & spread over 95,000 square miles. What makes them more amazing yet is that the wild, rough water is fresh. The area's earliest settlers had never seen such a marvel & couldn't describe the lakes without comparing them to oceans; the fresh-water seas. Cleveland sits on Erie, which is the sixth largest lake in the world. It isn't so much a question of whether the Lake Erie Monster exists; it's more a question of what it actually looks like. This tee is my take on the monster.
